A Living Room at Glass House by Windsor

Thursday, December 4th, 2014

Well, it’s been a while since my last post.  Lots going on over here at The Interior Stylist!  I thought I’d update you on one of our current projects:  an apartment design at the beautiful building here in Dallas called Glass House by Windsor.  The architecture is very modern:  floor-to-ceiling windows, open sight lines, and contemporary finishes throughout.  Our client wants to mix in traditional elements to soften and bring warmth to her open space, with hues of color inspired by the beach–sea glass and shades of blue.  She also loves neutral, tufted sofas, Oushak rugs and modern art.  For starters, we presented her with two living room options (with a modest budget and space restrictions) using her existing coffee table.  So which is your favorite?

The Modern Farmhouse

Wednesday, November 5th, 2014

Surprisingly, I’ve developed quite the affinity for the modern farmhouse.  I’ve been drawn to every picture I’ve seen (as of late) of this style of architecture.  I drove past one in a close by neighborhood here in Dallas and thought to myself that if I was to build a home from scratch, this may just be the type of home I would build.  The modern farmhouse stands for one of my favorite things: mixing modern and traditional elements together creating a well-balanced space that feels organic instead of cookie-cutter.  Here are a few of my favorites modern farmhouse exteriors from various sources.  Which is your favorite, and what are your thoughts on the modern farmhouse design?!?

Project Update: Transitional Home Lighting Options

Friday, October 31st, 2014

Happy Halloween! Today I thought I would share a sneak peek of my transitional home project that is under way.  Not only is lighting an important part of design, it’s one of my favorite things to source.  The right light can take a space from mediocre to magnificent!  This home is still under construction, but I’ve been fortunate to be a part of things from the early stages of the process.  I can’t wait to see how it all comes together.  Today I thought I would share with you some of the lighting choices that we’ve made thus far for this beautiful, transitional-style home.

October is breast cancer awareness month and pink is the color of the moment.  The color pink is one of my favorites, so it’s a great excuse to wear some to support the cause while thinking of others around us who have been impacted by the disease.  Not only do I love to wear pink, but I love to use pink wherever I can in my home (good thing I have two little girls, right?).  I think a little pink can go a long way!  See below items for a few ways to add in the color of the moment!

Fall Inspiration: Styling Your Fireplace Mantle

Monday, October 13th, 2014

When I think of fall one thing that comes to mind is a cozy, wood-burning fireplace.  Nothing makes me want to stay inside and nestle under a warm blanket more than seeing a beautiful fireplace in use.  Not only are the upcoming months the perfect time to light up your own place for some added warmth, but it’s also the perfect time to style your fireplace mantle–after all, it will be the main focus of your space very soon!  Here are a few of my favorite cozy fireplaces and styled mantles.  You can tell I like the use of art and mirrors–I think those two things can make a big impact for your small niche.

So, there’s a little inspiration for styling your fireplace! Whether you choose a simple and minimal way of styling or one that has lots of layers, most of you have items around the house that you could use to get the same look as in some of these pictures (get out those candlesticks, objects from your travels, your favorite framed piece of art).  Send me snap shots of your own styled fireplace mantles!  I’d love to see how you dress your space!
