Home Tour: Historic Harlem Brownstone + Styling Tips

Monday, June 30th, 2014

I hope everyone had a great weekend!  I took a few days off from blogging last week, but hope that I can get back in the game this week.  Lately I’ve been seeking out images of spaces with great styling. Sometimes I think a room can be over styled with way too much going on–my eyes have been getting a little tired. Such a nice feeling when I feasted my eyes upon this latest home tour via Elle Decor. This home was designed by Sheila Bridges and the styling in the magnificent home is simple, yet just enough to make the space that much more interesting.

I like how they chose to accessorize the bed side tables with just a few things–matching lamps, minimal books and flowers.

The mirror in this entry way does a lot of the talking and by adding a little art keeps the space looking clean and classy.

I love that this mantle has next to nothing on it.  The art is a statement all on its own and the way they styled the books for this shot is great.

I delight in the fact that these bookshelves are actually styled with books and not a whole lot else.  To me, that’s the best way to style a bookcase–mostly using books over a lot of little trinkets.

Again, a simply styled mantle that doesn’t detract from the beauty of the actual fireplace mantle itself.

Oranges for a pop of color never hurts a shot.  I love how they used a mix of short and tall items on this dining room table.

And what better way to style a kitchen shot than with actual food.  The styling here gave the kitchen the added color that it needed.

And last, but not least–this shot is great with all the natural light.  I love styling with tall branches, especially in a room with high ceilings.  The neatly organized coffee table is perfect as well.

I adore all the rooms and think that Sheila Bridges did a great job in bringing in the light, and keeping with the original design elements of this brownstone.  I especially enjoy the fact that the owner loves wall coverings and Sheila was able to use them in several of the rooms.  Check out Elle Decor for more about this home. Which room is your favorite?

Tuesday’s Treasure: Old Navy Because They’re Killing It

Tuesday, June 24th, 2014

I was pretty blown away during my visit last week to Old Navy.  They have a great selection of pretty hip items that I just can’t get enough of!  I bought some items that I’m loving and wanted to share with all of you b/c some of these guys are on sale right now!  Get ‘em while they’re hot! Here’s the list of things I bought and a few others that I want!

I think this tunic swim cover-up looks so similar to one I tried on at  J.Crew

I bought this little lady in two different colors I love it so much!  It’s so light-weight and great for the summer months!

Same with this gorgeous maxi dress that I decided to buy in both colors.  All the dresses were on sale!

And here are some items I haven’t purchased yet, but think they are really great!

blue drapey cinched pants

I really wanted these white linen blend pants but they were sold out in my size…darn!

Check out the sales going on at Old Navy and even the regular priced items are still inexpensive!  I know I don’t feel as guilty buying something trendier here, rather than spending a lot of something that may not be in style next summer.  In my opinion, Old Navy is killing it!

Would You Rather: Old Fashion, Homey Kitchen or White, Bright and Modern Kitchen?

Friday, June 20th, 2014

Today’s Would You Rather is inspired by Anne Decker Architects and a kitchen that they renovated. They have created some amazing new homes and renovations that you must see here. I am wondering if you would rather have this white, bright and modern kitchen or an old fashion, homey kitchen– both of which are pretty special and pictured below.

Both are pretty luxurious!  Anyone that knows me knows that I would pick the white, bright and modern kitchen, but I have grown to love all the charm and character the old fashion and traditional spaces possess. Which would you rather have?

TBT + The Happiest Day of My Life

Thursday, June 19th, 2014

Four years ago my fiancé (now husband) and I eloped to Maui, Hawaii for our wedding and honeymoon!  I wouldn’t have done it any other way, but hope that our family and friends can go back with us on our ten year anniversary to celebrate in the very same place we married.  It’s been 4 years of marriage (7 years together) and I’m more in love with him now than the day we married.

The day of our wedding included a morning walk, a little pool time, and then we went our separate ways for the rest of the day until we saw each other as I walked down the “aisle”. I had my hair and makeup done in the room and John left early to get ready at the place where we would be married. I managed to get my dress on by myself, but unfortunately could not get it zipped! I had to call the front desk to have someone come zip me up before walking through the hotel lobby by myself in a wedding dress and getting into a black limo (needless to say, I felt like a little like I was in an episode of The Bachelor–I was alone in a white dress, and being chauffeured to my destination, meanwhile thinking”is he going to be there?” and “will I get the rose?”) I have watched one too many reality TV shows…

He was there waiting for me, the setting was beautiful, and he looked oh so handsome!

Our trip included A LOT of beach and pool time, a helicopter ride to see the view of the island from above, lots of shopping, eating and exploring,  And taking in a movie on the lawn at the Maui Film Festival.  I highly recommend visiting Hawaii,  specifically Kea Lani in Maui. When we got back to Dallas we had our reception party and had fun dancing and singing the night away with all of our friends and family!  Great memories that I’ll cherish forever.

Here’s to seeing more of the world with you and always looking forward to our future together. After all these years together, hanging out with you is still my favorite thing to do!

Tuesday’s Treasure: Things I’m Currently Coveting

Tuesday, June 17th, 2014

Today I’m doing my Tuesday’s Treasure post on all the things I’m currently coveting. Just maybe you are loving these thing as much as I am!  I can’t get enough of busts for styling interiors, Thomas O’Brien lighting, J.Crew’s summer clothes, patterned work out pants and Quadrille’s Veneto pattern in blue for a fabric or wall covering choice.  I’m waiting on a good deal or sale (not holding my breath:) to purchase one of these coveted items, but in the meantime, I will do just that, covet them!
